I am probably going to be going to Kuwait soon to do some expatriate work for KBR, and I'm looking for information on the living conditions over there, leisure activities, attitudes towards Americans, etc. Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

Don't worry. Kuwaitis always liked the American people, even when great numbers of them don't like some of the US Governement's policies. Much of those critical of the US Government do so peacefully, because Kuwaitis will never forget that the US led the efforts to kick out the Iraqi occupiers in 1991, and kick down Saddam in 2003. Living conditions are great and is regarded as one of the best in the region, if you just learn to get along with some of the negative things like bureaucracy, local traditions, etc. I disagree with the thing said above that you have only the gym. There are many leisure activities you can do in Kuwait, but I agree with the heat thing: you have to learn when to go outdoors. Cars and houses are all air conditioned, and fresh water is avaiable cheaply all around the place. You can take a swim at the pool, or at the sea front (beware of dressing code in this case), or try the Aqua Park. Malls are a great place to be, especially with the nice prices we have here. Many leisure parks available like the Entertainment City, and Shaab Park. The heat of the night is not that bad, so much can be done at that time. Try movie theatres (movies are censored, but it is not that bad), restaurants (you should try Lebanese, Indian, and if you found somewhere good, Kuwaiti food. You would love them. You might like also smoking the pipe). Maybe I missed some stuff, but you will find more when you come here. Anyways, alcoholics are banned in Kuwait. Indecent clothing is highly unwelcomed and may get you in trouble. English is widely spoken, although a significant minority are fluent in that. I said all I can, but you can search around in the net for more. Try these:

i'm kuwaiti, born and live in kuwait. don't worry, everything should work out great for you, with no problems hopefully (3% you'll find troubles with the attitudes really). just good luck with the summer heat.. if you can survive THAT, you'll do just fine. sadly there's nothing much you can do as leisure activities, nothing beside gym really, due to the weather. but good luck anyways.

will you be working on a military base? if you are, don't worry about it. it'll all be taken care of... especially if you're working for KBR. KBR hooks you up and you guys could use all the military facilities (ie MWR (morale, welfare, recreation), gym, etc). usually there are uso concerts given, certain nights would be dance nights, etc. you'll have fun.
