There is one natural satellite the moon. As of 2003, NASA estimated that there were approximately 7500 accountable pieces of accountable space hardware or satellites. There are also 100,000 manmade objects with most of these being space junk. The number has grown markedly since then as a result of the efforts of various space agencies.
