The theory is that if we can travel at the speed of light we can stop time. Light by definition travels at the speed of light. If we could by some nuclear method change our surroundings into pure energy (light) then we could stop time. (atom bomb)
I love your use of the word "ever". Could we "ever" learn how to convert ourselves and surroundings to pure energy and stop time. Yes, but to our own demise.
The trick to make stopping time important is in the ability to restart time after it is stopped. This by theory could be done by controlling the placement and coalescing of photons to created matter from energy. This is already happening in every day life. When we turn on a light in a blue room, we are controlling what color light is reflected and what color is absorbed by the walls. Similar principles could be applied to recombine electromagnetic energy once we have a purpose to do so.

Per Einstein all space and time are linked bend space enough and you bend time. Hawking and others have theorized that time may in fact slow down the the point of nearly stopping at the center of a black hole but I for one would not like to keep one around in my pocket. One must separate the human concept of time which is subjective time, from the results of actual time Space-time. Actual time is continuative always moving in one direction. Changing that would break many of the fundamental laws of how we perceive the universe. Short answer summery, Not possible given our current understanding of how the universe works.

Probably not actually stop time, but there is evidence that time IS split up into frames called Planck Time. The thing is, they are so short (5.391 × 10−44 seconds), the time it takes for light to travel 1 planck length, that we have no equipment that can detect them.

Human understands the passage of time only by the occurence of events. When every motion - motion of any kind- even the thinking process -is stopped , time stands still.

I hope so but science says no. In an old superman (1950s) episode, when Superman went really fast backwards, time reversed. Maybe that woud work.

Completely impossible! Though I wish I could turn time back, so I wouldn't be a middle-aged has-been.

no in order for time to stop you would have to be traveling the speed of light, matter only exisist on a time spectrum, so if you travel the speed of light time doesnt exisist and therefor matter no longer exisists
