Easy to take a year off.
Hard to go back to school.
And hard to get back into student mode once you're there.
At least for me...

It's extremely hard. You always say oh don't worry I'll enroll next year, but then next year comes and you have a whole new life. You have a job and friends and you've usually fallen into a pattern in life that makes going back to school seem either horrible or impossible. Most people who take a year off either never enroll or drop out shortly after enrolling. I would say the only good kind of year off would be a year of travel or something like a college tour. Something that keeps you from falling into a life pattern that will mess you up later. Of course it's always good to keep in the mindset so that you dont' forget good study habits too.
Junior college is also a really easy and really good choice. I'm enrolled in one right now.

The question is, what do you want to do that will allow you to earn an income and provide the lifestyle you want to have?
So many students and parents focus on going to college and what to major in, that not enough focus is given on what one will do AFTER the college experience.
So, with that said, if you have a passion for what you will do after college, then going back to college will be all up to you. If you are not aware of what it is you want to do, then I would encourage you to take a few courses at your local community college and "taste test" different kinds of courses to help identify your area(s) of interest. Use any and all resources to help you make career decisions. Community colleges have great resources to assist in this endeavor.
The key is start getting some experiences so that you can be informed about the decisions you are making. Once you have the information you need, you will be more motivated to continue the journey. Once that happens, the sky is the limit!
There is far more that you can learn and discuss...if you would like to know more...e-mail me at:

I hope this helps!

Taking time off is easy.
The problems start when you try to get going again. If you want to take some time off, get a job. In fact it might do you a lot of good. A high school diploma will only qualify you for some very poor jobs. That should be enough to motivate you into a very successful college education.

Taking a year break after highschool is a mistake alot of people make. The best thing to do is go right into college, you should have about 2-3 months off before your first semesetr starts in fall, so you still get a summer break. But if you take a whole year off, it is really hard to get back into the swing of things, especially if you found a job you think you want to progress in.

I took a year off after high school and worked the whole time, then went to college but didn't stay for one whole semester. I've been out of high school for four years and don't want to go back to college.

There is nothing wrong with that? Infact I would reccommend it! Because once you start its hard to stop because the more you take the closer you are to the degree. Plus you can get a job and get some work experience and then put some of the money toward your college experience! :-)

if you don't feel ready for college, i would recommend taking a year off... i went straight into college against my better judgment and just ended up bombing out (went back and graduated with a 3.8)... if you're not totally into it, it won't work... but don't just "chill at home" for a year... work, save money, figure out what you really want to do, set a date that you WILL get into school, prepare yourself, and go for it!

Taking a year off is very easy. It's going back once you take time off that's hard.
