Umm first off dont take it out on the kids cause your ex is a bitc and i see what your saying I dont think someone should have to pay child support if the other person wont even let them see their dam kid if the person's so bad that they cant see the kid it should be either joint custody or no custody. Why dont you sign off on your rights since your not gettin them anyway then you have no responsibiliity for anything I mean really why are you paying child support and you cant even see where the moneys going I would quit my job and let them lock me up before I pay child support and have someone tell me i cant see my dam child since she wants me to pay for a child i cant see she can pay her tax money to house and feed me and thats just how i feel!!!!

Your question is confusing. I read other answers first and see that several people have assumed that your ex is trying to prevent you from seeing the children - and that if she does that you seem to be asking if you can halt child support.

What I read from your question is that you are NOT spending time with the kids and she threatens to take legal action against you for it. Consequently, you ask if you can halt child support if she does that.

Here's the deal - no matter whether you see the kids or not, if it was your dick that was used to make those kids, then your wallet is required to help raise them. Interaction with the children is not a requirement for enforcing child support either way. The courts assume that you had the fun making these critters, now you get to share the cost of raising them, NO MATTER WHAT.

This position is universal in the United States.

If you don't like or want anything to do with the kids, at least have the decency to write them a letter explaining yourself so that when they get older they will have answers to the questions all children have about their natural parents.

If you do want to be with them and the ex is threatening to block you, then be prepared to show your influence as a parent is positive. That means not doing drugs, not being drunk with them, not having sex partners in their presence, and not behaving in ways that threaten their health and welfare. In other words, be ready to show you are a responsible and competent parent.

Here's what happens if you decide on your own, without going to court first, to cut off child support:

1 - if you have a passport, it will be blocked. If you need a passport, it will be blocked.

2 - After about $5,000 or so in back child support is owed, the cops can come and get you any time.

3 - ALL child support owed - even one month's payment - is grounds for the state to seize your paychecks. Normally this means that the state will claim up to 65% of your GROSS monthly pay (depending on the state) to cover back child support. And the state adds 10% compound interest. Although technically it is illegal for an employer to fire you because your wages are attached for back child support, lots of companies will kick you out anyhow.

Man, you DO NOT WANT to just stop paying. Go to court - you can get free help - or find some other way to work out your problems.

Oh, by the way - if you are indifferent in your attention to the kids, or don't pay support then when they are older they will dump you. Don't expect to be welcomed in their lives later.

If you want to do this, I think you and she will have to go to court. Your ex-wife will probably plead that you are neglecting your kids though but since they are your kids, you must continue paying child support or go down to the courtroom and sign an appeal based on how she's doing you. State Your Case!

You are the father right? Or at least your sperm is.
Why are you not raising your kids? I have NO use
for any guy who does not take an active role in their
childrens rearing. Writing a check is not enough.
You brought them here, do not leave your responsibility
to others.

once you start paying child support it doesnt stop because you want to.
she cant keep you from seeing the kids.
take her to court to get court approved visits. this works for the kids and they will love you for doing this too.
dont worry.

my ex pays for his child/ my daughter since she was 7,(now 16yr) I thought if he paid he would WANT visitation rights but never did.

but since you want to have visits with your kids , the mom cant stop you.
but you have to take her to court to get this done legally. so the courts of a document of this.
go to juvenile court in your town or call welfare office and tell them you want to court ordered visitation rights. they can help with this.
good luck, and good to see a father that wants to see his kids.
after this you could even have visits to their school and know how they are doing.

Nope you have to keep paying until you get a court order not to. Otherweise she can have you tossed into jail. If she won't let you see the kids then talk to your attorney

Just because you don't want to see your children, why should the kids suffer economically? I would be very surprised of any court that would let you off the hook for that reason.

Why don't you see them? Do you call them? Send them cards?
