Recent studies show that many sunscreens are not doing a good enough job of preventing cancerous changes in skin, even though they are stopping burns.
"Experts say the best protection against UVA is a sunscreen that includes zinc oxide, titanium dioxide or avobenzone. Consumers should also look for those that are water-resistant and have an SPF of 30 or better, indicating strong protection against UVB rays, and apply liberally and often."
Coppertone has a formula with avobenzone in their spf 50 formula, and many child and baby formulations have one or the other of titanium dioxide or zinc oxide.

I would use UVA protection of 30 or higher if you are trying to protect skin. Also, they have this new mist that goes on like water and you do not have to rub in. I would suggest it. Banana Boat makes a really nice sport version that doesn't smell.

Coppertone brand "Oil Free" is quite possibly the world's most perfect sunscreen. You can even put it on your eyelids, and it won't sweat, melt or in any other way get into and sting your eyes!!! I personally use SPF 15, because I will get a good tan without burning.

I suggest Ombrelle (if you're shopping in a drug store), but my mom shells out a bit more cash for one by Skeyndor (blue and yellow packaging) that was recommended by her esthetician- it's nice too. There are new "aerosol" spray formulas that make it easy to spray your back and other hard-to-reach places, so consider those.
