feeders hang from metal "shepherd's crooks" which are secured in the ground. Feeders are about 5 feet above the ground and ants climb up the "crooks" and get right into the feeders.
Don't want to use poison and take a chance on it getting into the hummingbird nectar.

I put crisco in a plastic bag, pull it inside out (so the crisco is on the outside and my hand inside) and rub it up and down the pole until it is invisible. No more ants!

Well you could buy a 5'5" tall anteater...

Seriously, treat the ground around the base of the shepherd crooks with your choice of ant treatment. About 12" diameter should do the trick to create an effective barrier..

Ant traps near the base of the crook. They have outdoor spikes you can get that the birds won't be harmed by.

Some may say to use Borax (laundry booster) because it's harmless to birds, and effective against ants, however it looks stupid in your landscaping and you have to reapply it after rain.

Vaseline at the bottom of the pole about 2-3 inches up the pole. That long of an area to cover.

ok, to kill bees, get a bottle of 409 or superb. Spray it on the bees and they're going to really fall from the sky!! (Yep, I actually have performed this one, so i understand it quite works!)... Or, a can of WD-40 and shoot it on the bees (i love the different, because it can provide a brilliant spray, somewhat of a skinny line...never replaced into reliable at aimin :) Ants, merely get some Boric Acid Powder at your nearest pharmacy or drug save, and sprinkle it around the bottom of the tree that you've the humming fowl feeder in... it really is going to kill them very right now. I desire you properly.. Jesse
