No, I could not tolerate living under a Communist dictatorship. I appreciate that it has modernized somewhat, but it's still communism. And as to the Chinese culture, I wonder how much of it is left after the Maoist "cultural revolution."

Even if I thought I could learn the language (and I don't), I could not live there.

It would be fun. I have been thinking of teaching in another country and have had a few ask about me teaching English as a second language. I still not sure when/if I could go. Not sure of China, I was thinking more like Europe somewhere.

I'd prefer Peru or Thailand. Maybe even the Czech Republic, but definitely Japan. China come across a bit too humid for my liking.

I dont know about myself, but my brother (who is 19) just recently moved to China last month. He lives with his gf and her parents there. He teaches English to little Chinese kids. He loves it there, too. For about 3-4 years, he has been learning Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese. He loves teaching the little kids English. I am very proud of him because for a couple of years now, he has been saying that he's going to move to China, and nobody, including me, did not believe him. And now that he actually moved there, and got a job, I am very proud of him.
