The hose that I have is about 7 inches long, and is flat on one end and has a slit in the side, the other end is open, with a hose clamp, about half way through it has a ring of rubber around it...can anybody help me understand if I have the right name for this part??

If all your looking for is the rubber piece name.....then yes you have the right part. The slit allows for outside airflow in the hose so you don't have what i'll call.."backwash"......If there where no slit or opening.....the water, when draining, would slosh out of the pipe causing you a mess.I believe the name your looking for is drainage hose with surge cap.

go to www.sears.com & go to the parts section. You will need the model # of your washer. They have parts diagrams & you can order online also.
