Basicilly was demoted from assitant manager because asked for one Sunday per month off during the summer. Asked the manager of that area (who decides & makes the schedule) and was told that there wasn't a guarantee that he would get that Sunday off. BTW, she schedules herself off every Sunday and before she recieved the manager position she rotated Suns. off with this person that was demoted.

Here are afew more details, sorry but this is really upsetting me because I feel this was my fault due to that fact he did it because of my health. The person demoted is my fiance, he asked for aleast one Sunday off a month to help me & spend alittle more time with our kids (he works 40 hrs at this one and 25+ at another job). I should let you know I have a heart condition which limits what work I can do at home. He did tell them it was temporary and he tried to explain to the manager(which is a women) over him about the situation. He even told her that if he happened to get that day off and they needed him to call and let him know. Many of the other employees have said the way they treated him was very unfair and B*S*.

If you were hired because you told them you were available for certain times, and , later, change your availability, you can not only be demoted, but could be laid off. Just because someone else is getting days off that you would prefer does not mean this is not fair. Perhaps they were hired under these hours of availability. You may have been hired because they needed someone who was available for the days and/or hours you originally told them you would work.

Usually managers rely heavily on their employees. I think that because of that they want things a certain way. Unfortunately, they can demote someone for changing their availability. The best thing to do usually is to think out what days you want off and let them know up front that you need those days off. Then there is a prior agreement to when you can and cannot work.

You can't ethically be demoted just for asking anything that's unoffensive. It might have been an agreement between that person and the manager, but this person is acting like they got screwed. But for the manager to simply demote someone because they asked for it? That's unethical and can probably be taken up with higher management.

They can demote you for anything they want to demote you for ,unfortunately. That sounds very unfair to me. No insult to you, but I find that that's the trouble when women are in upper management, they are hard noses and very strict and unfair. I should add that I am a woman myself. I just cringe when I find that the head manager is a woman.
I find that I have fewer problems when the head manager is a man.

I think that the decision should be left upon the supervisor because the employee knew what the work schedule would be like before taking the position. Know that somethings came up he or she wont's to back out the verbal agreement
