Bill Lester has been racing in the Craftsman Truck Series for a couple of years now so he's not exactly a rookie he also left his high paying corporate job to chase his dream.Pair these things with Nascars desire to add some diversity to the sport and Lester is a perfect fit. Lester also is not the first driver to come to the Cup Series with little or no experience in the Busch series. With the number of Cup drivers who also race in the Busch Series there's not much oppertunity there. I say good luck Bill.

NASCAR is a sport open to anyone who has the ability to field and race a car.
Unfortunately lately it has been labeled a white, redneck sport by certain people.
Who cares if Bill Lester skipped a few races to get to Nextel, the point is The Man has what it takes to run a Nascar race. 'Nough said.

he races in the truck series. he's only racing a few of the cup series. in order to qualify for rookie status you have to appeal to nascar, and since he doesn't have a full year schedule it probably wouldn't ave gone anyways.. i'm kind of assuming he didn't feel like going through the redtape and is therefor not considered to be a rookie. a lot of them that filter through slowly by doing a race here or race ther never really do a full time rookie status.

Bill Lester has been racing competitively since the late 1980s. He was driving a GT1 Camaro in the last SCCA race I ran, in 1991, and he was pretty fast back then. I wish him all the best!

He's still considered a rookie in Cup. He has competed in Trucks for several years, but until he runs enough races in a single Cup season he will still be considered a rookie. Thats why he has the yellow stripe on his rear bumper.

Bill Lester has raced for years.......I thought he was great in the truck races. He is no rookie and a real gentleman.

Yeah, I don't know why that is. He does race in the NASCAR truck series, though.
