Cool car. Good pick.
FInd an empty parking lot.
The hardest part is first gear. The most common mistake
is to give it too little gas when letting the clutch out.
Put the clutch in, rev the motor by pushing the accelerator,
up to about 2000 rpm, slowly let the cloth out. You can
play with the clutch at first. Just rev that motor, in 1st gear,
and move the clutch in and out back and forth to get the feel
of it engaging. Once you have mastered 1st gear, the rest is easy.

With the engine OFF . In 64 1/2 mustang , seat in the driver seat adjust the seat so you are com portable make sure the parking brake ON go through the H pattern where N,1,R ,2& 3even if it have 4 th . (with the clutch pedal in) the left foot is for the clutch and brake. the right foot is for the gas pedal & brake. reminder at this point and time when you learn something new don't use a cell phone unless if you're park or at a red signal light. remember clutch in before you turn the key if you don't the car would jump. release the parking brake with the left hand . chooes a gear 1st or R rigth foot over the gas check traffic rev up gently on the gas at the sametime release the clutch out gently albout timing ( left foot, right foot , left foot, rigth foot) when coming to a stop sign clutch in right foot on the brake ,it take time it like jumping role L,R,L,R from first to second when the engine wine up (hear the passing car or motorcycle when it change pitch change gears RIGHT ) have someone with you an extra eye and first try on a slow street or empty parking. good luck :)

so when i was learning to drive my mom got a new car and lucky me it was a stick i was pretty upset with her cause i definitely didn't want to learn a stick so anyways i learned it and its not to hard just lots and lots of patience. so you have the clutch brake and gas when you start the car you have to push the clutch all the way in after that put it in reverse or first ( which ever direction your going ) you still have the clutch in or it will stall out you have to let the clutch out gently while pressing the gas this is the hardest part after you get it started its easy sailing you then just have to push the clutch in every time you change gears its like 0- 15 is 1st 15-25 is 2cd 25- 30 is 3rd 30 - 35 4th and then when you hit 45 you go into 5th you also need to remember to put the clutch in every time you stop practice in a vacant area you'll do fine good luck

Well, it's a feeling thing really. But if I had to explain it in words, I would say.......Put your right foot on the brake and your left on the clutch and depress both. Shift into 1st. Put your right foot on the gas and as you let up on the clutch depress the gas. When the clutch is halfway out, you should be halfway to the point at which you want your gas pedal to be at when you are completely shifted. Probably didn't help much, you need someone who drives stick to sit in the car with you and talk you through it, there are too many things you could do wrong.

It just takes a lot of practice. You have to learn to drive double footed and learn to shift when you push in the clutch. Best way is to see if there is a drivers training course to teach you how to drive stick. Other than that you can strip the gears by improper shifting and really mess up the transmission and clutch.

Borrow someone else's car to practice otherwise you will be posting a question wondering where you might find a new clutch for a 1963 mustang......

There is no such thing as a 1963 Mustang! They started building them in late 1964

It just takes practice.Go to some secluded spot and make a day of it,with someone that CAN drive a stick!! Remember release the clutch as slowly as you press the gas..no revving of the engine!!!

Yeah! 1963? You better let someone else drive that car because if you cannot drive a stick then you cann't drive a '63 Stang.
