Jax has a bad crime rate right now, and major traffic issues. The QOA is pretty good, most of the people are as well. Stay away from the Northside/Westside areas, particularly Beaver Street vicinity. Riverside/Avondale is a historic area, with beautiful homes. (There is a historic society, so you'll be bound by certain guidelines if you want to alter a house.) Murray Hill is feeling the effects of crime as well. (Just off Cassat Avenue.) Ortega is the original rich neighborhood.

Depending on where you will work, look for housing in either Nassau, Baker or Clay Counties. (Clay County is becoming a bedroom community of Jax, and the traffic isn't much better.) Beware that any one could put you about an hour or more away from your work.

I think Jacksonville, FL but I am just being biased. I am from Florida and I love it there and would go back there in a heartbeat if I could.

Although you certainly chose two wonderful places, just perhaps there is a third city that might possibly surpass even those two.
