Australia played a better defensive game (and sometimes even offensively) than was ever expected of Australia. Not just because of Austrailia's inexperience in World Cups but for its rankings worlwide.

Brazil did play a bad game in the scheme of things, not just from its experience, but the caliber of players on the field on the Brazilian team merited a better game than they played.

I would agree that you should be proud of your country, but know, that if Brazil was playing as good as they can, then Australia's strenghts would not have been as notable.

Yup. Sure did. I, being an England fan, always support the Socceroos on the side. Was excited when they made it to Germany '06.

Was thrilled with Cahill's brace against the Japanese. And the performance against Brazil was very good in general, but I have to say, Kewell squandered quite a few chances - especially the one where Dida lost his grip on the ball and the goal was unguarded. And the 2nd goal by Brazil was really unfair. 1-0 would've been enough. Australia still have the Croatia game to look forward to. If they bag all three points there, it's on to the last 16 - can't wait!!

Wish you all the best, to all ya down under!

not brilliantly, but they did do very well. However you say that as if Australia are some sort of rubbish team. They've got some very capable players in the likes of Cahill, Viduka, Schwarzer(on his day) and Kewell. I think Australia are just going to power past Croatia into the second round to be honest.

OMGosh, they were great. My heart was in my throat the entire match. Some will love us, lots will bag us out(I don't care) but by golly they have made Australian's so very proud. They are improving every time they take the field. It's so sad that Guus has decided to coach elsewhere now. Together they could have made such leaps forward in the coming 4 years. But he hes given the boys great experience, tactics and ethics and that will see them go forward in years to come. I don't think you will find too many Aussies who feel let down by the boys. I personally can't wait to play Croatia now. How fabulous would it be for them to advance to the next round. I think they will. What a bonus for them and for us as supporters. It's been a real pleasure for me to watch their efforts in this WC. Congratulations to Guus Hiddink and many thanks from us fans for what you have done and achieved with and for the Socceroo's also. Guys send your Hero messages and let them know just how proud of them we are. They should know how they have lifted the hearts and spirits and hopes of Australia. They have made many new fans and friends with their efforts and have now become noticed. What a fantastic result to even get this far.

Honestly, I thought they played horribly. I don't remember seeing so many bizarre mistakes (from both sides, actually) in a game before. That guy, Bresciani, may be the worst player in the World Cup.
This is why I think Brazil is, indeed, very bad. They had problems beating a horrible team.

i would have to agree. brazil is, after all, one of the greatest teams in the tournament, and they scored both their goals very late into the game. until then, australia did fantastically defensively and there were some great shots made that the goalie blocked
