Unfortunately, it is turning into an Irish flag due to the sun.....What is the proper etiquette to tell Italians that they will soon be speaking gaelic and losing their tan ???

to be sure, sure buy him a pint of guiness with a jameson chaser it should take the edge of any shock he feels at your revelations, or just don't mention it he will figure it out himself when he starts sprouting ginger hair and becomes way more talkative, but in a poetic slightly romantic manner (nice way of saying drunk)
Ireland didn't get into the world cup which is especially bad because England did.

LOL! Your jokes are too funny! Unfortunately they're a little too intellectual for us politically correct types. We are conditioned like Pavlov's dogs to react violently whenever somebody mentions something about someone else's country - and it keeps us from understanding other cultures.
But to sort of answer your question, if Ireland were to do well in the World Cup and Italy faltered, they might just switch nationalities on their own. Did you notice how many "Brazilians" there were in Toronto today after Brazil's victory over Austrailia?
