it is considered vulgar and sinful l to moslems....A major part of the west's economy is fueled by banks lending money to people and charging interest...these money lenders probably are offensive to many moslems...I wonder what happened many thousands of years ago to the early people of the world that a relgion would so forbid such a act that most americans have little feelings about....intersting that this one fundamental mismatch in belifefs could have such a profound effect on peoples actions and feelings.

The same applied to Christianity back during the Middle Ages, which left that job to the Jews because many jobs were denied to the Jews because of anti-Semitism. Remember William Shakespeare's "Merchant of Venice," with the character of Shylock, the Jewish moneylender who singlehandedly created the stereotype of Jews being miserly money hoarders.

No I did not know that. Conversely, it seems wrong to go into debt for non essentials. How can you sell your future life-energy away by promising to re-pay. I don't understand most people's actions and reactions to debt. I hate to have the feeling that someone owns my future actions. It has been essential for me to be financially independent so that I am never desperate or fearful financially. I can understand going only into debt for the most essential items and then working oneself out of debt as soon as possible.
