My 95 chevy blazer spits and chugs when you come to a stop sign or it is idling. It runs just fine when going down the road, no miss at all. I have had a new battery, spark plugs & wires, drive belt, camshaft positioning sensor, put on and i have had the egr valve cleaned out twice and put a new egr valve gasket with a screen on it. i cant seem to figure out what the problem is. i dont know a whole lot about fixing vehicles. i am a single mom with 2 teenage girls and i simply cant afford to take it to a dealer to have it fixed. can someone please help? my b/f seems to think it may be the throttle sensor, he unplugged it and it jumped up to 2000 rpms but when he plugged it back in it started to spit chug and sputter again also fell back down to under 1000 rpms. could this be the problem?

I had it hooked up to a comp and they told me it was the camshaft positioning sensor which i replaced and they also said it was the egr valve which i had worked on also. neither of these things did any good. it hasnt been running right for over a month and i am giong stark raving mad. please help.

this is a very common problem on those vehicles. 95% of the time it is the egr valve. the reason being it is made to be open while going down the road but close while at idle. cleaning it helps most of the time, but this will not always fix your problem. most shops can check the egr valve to make sure it is closing properly. if not $200 should take care of it. hope this helps

There is no correct answer to be given without looking at the Blazer.
The throttle position sensor could be bad but any sensor could be bad. Oxygen sensors or an ignition pickup coil might also cause this.
Take it to a Chevy dealer or a shop that specializes in emissions or tune up. Have them conect it to a machine that reads engine trouble codes. Some parts stores may let you borrow or rent a hand held scaner.
Getting it fixed will save you money with better gas mileage. Some of the parts replaced are part of normal maintenance but the egr valve reduces smog and engine ping at higher RPM by routing exhaust gas back into the intake. The main way it could effect driving is if there was a vacuum leak.
Reset the ECM codes by removing the fuse.

Your vehicle has OBD 2 diagnosis. Most Autozone and Advance auto parts stores have the computer to check for trouble codes and they are usually free. I assume the check engine light is on!!!
Because you unplugged the TPS while it was running it will have a code set for the TPS and all the other sensors you may have unplugged. You need to get the computer reset with the tool and then drive until light comes back on and then you can be more assured that cam sensor is problem or whatever. The cam sensor usually will not cause a vehicle to idle bad and then run well going down the road. Most Idle only problems are cause by vacuum leaks. Your two teenage girls should have good hearing, so get them to listen at the top of the engine for a SSSHHHHH kind of sound while engine is running, like air leaking. Dont let them hurt themselves but you might find a small hose usually smaller than a pencil is the problem. Unplugging the throttle sensor "TPS" will cause rpm to go up and obviously cause engine to run smoother. Good Luck email me if you need info, Master Tech with four daughters.

Sounds like the problem I had with my Blazer. I have a 94 Blazer and found that the fuel pressure regulator are notorious for going bad especially if its a Vortec engine. GM has made an upgraded for this part because it fails quite frequently.
P.S. - Catalytic converter is towards the front of the exhaust and are designed to last the life of the vehicle, however improper engine performance can cause it to plug or burn up. This could be your problem but normaly would have a loss of power while driving.

He may be right, but there are many things that can cause those simptoms. The problem is that you might tie $300 - $400 by just changing one part after another until you hit the right part. Since it only cost about $75 to have a repair place hook up the computer and see what is really wrong, you would save a lot of mony by doing so.
Instead of the dealer, go to a reputable indipendant repair facility. The are cheaper than the dealers.

if u didnt take your battery cable off an reset the code might be showing the same 1 some codes have to be erased with a code checker..try takein the battery cable off for 5 minutes an recheck the codes..it could be throwing a false code because something could be makeing that sensor show bad . but does sound like a throttle positioning sensor.. if its not idleing right or could be mass air flow meter (m.a.f.) sensor. if not might wanna check ya puter or ..run a few tanks of gas treatment thru it...could jus be watered down gas....and thats just a few things it could be.. but the cheapest 1 would be the gas treatment 1st....alcohol works good to dry up water in a fuel tank...hope this helped a lil :)

i hate to tell you this but Ive seen this a lot in the 4.3 Vortec motors that are in a lot of the chevy blazers and ever time Ive see this happen its always been the Vortec unit witch sits under the plan-tom it looks like a 6 lagged spider and its about $375 to $500 for that Vortec unit. How ever it could also be a bad vale you can have that checked using a vale pressher Gage the reading should be 125 PSI. on ever cylinder

Honestly if it happened after getting gas, it bad gas, just put water remover in the gas tank that should do the trick. I got a 95 blazer and It happened to me on 3 separate occasions at Cumberland's gas. Haven't got there gas sense and it's been doing fine lol
