They are two of the most important bands in Heavy Metal, but they are very different. They influentiated some generations in many ways, who do you think is the best?

This is an odd comparison, because they are neither alike nor do they fit in the same genre of music.
Motley Crue -- glam rock/hair band
Iron Maiden -- Yes, heavy metal for sure.
Still, my vote would go for Iron Maiden. Their lyrics have substance (they actually MEAN something more than hey! Let's party, go watch some strippers, ride motorcycles, blah blah...as musicians they are superior to the Crue (in my opinion, that is), and when it's time to clean the ol' house, nothing gets me moving more than "Die With Your Boots On!"
And besides, Iron Maiden has Eddie. The Crue has...porn star drummers? haha. No offense, I liked Motley Crue when I was in my 20's, but I outgrew them...and still love me some Iron Maiden!

I don't know who told you that they were two of the most important bands in Heavy Metal, I mean I'm not saying they are not good bands I listened to them alot during the 80's, but I wouldn't go around saying that they are great. They both have good music so to choose would not be easy, but thinking if I had both of their CD's sitting here right now and was going to listen to either of them I suppose I would choose Motley Crue and I also would not classify either of them as Heavy Metal, more like Hard Rock.

Iron Maiden by a long shot, motley crue is good, but iron maiden opened doors and had awesome lyrics and ideas, and its cool too see them still rockin today...
