Well, its a kinda complicated subject, but in a nutshell, they dont know any better. You have to look at their family history, they probably had an abusive father also, and that is all they know. Why dont you do some research on the subject and youll see its true.
A book about it is Women who love men who hate women by Susan Forward.

that's how they express love. you see they were probably beaten by a parent or someone they respected & by them being beat by them associate love with beat.
thats why some people seek out absusive relationships since they were abused when they were younger & associate love with abuse.
it's screwed up, but thats the way we are programed
hope this helps;

I don't know that they feel good about it.They probably have a lot of guilty feelings.This is a sick behavior and this person needs professional help.If they truly are on a power trip then they would resort to rape.

some abusers..are just mean evil,.. mad at the world no goods. others hate themselves and the world and take it out on others. others are cowards who need to abuse. others have been abused themselves and are following the pattern. not as many as you think are happy when its over. most know they are sick. the law is changing..and most are now going to prison after more than one offense. others are ordered to go to domestic violence counseling. but i only know a handful that have changed.

It is not only men that can be abusive, although abuse in either sex is from inattentiveness. Either they are not paying attention or the victim was'nt.
