Somewhere it is going to cost you money. You will have to pay transport to go out to do court searches, drivers license search, check with police and others. And some of these will cost you a bribe or two, police, bank clerk, finance institution - whatever!! So it cannot be done "for free".

A service such as Lexis/Nexis can give you a lot of information. You can put the person's name in a news article search or use their people finder feature to find someone's address and phone number.

if you know what state they live in you can sometimes search court records for free. or just get nosy and start asking questions!
