If heaven and hell were real? What kind of silly question is that. Everyone keeps telling me they are so it has to be right? Gah! :P
seriously though, but someone else's standards, I would be in hell. But then I don't believe in either locale. I happen to feel that that nothing can be completely good or bad, maybe only gad, or bood, heh. And thought carries through to the "afterlife" I prescribe to. My beliefs hold true that there is no "heaven" and no "hell", just another existance that is on a different scope from what others can only imagine.
And each time I attempt to explain my views, someone else just recommends I go to hell, so then I can only imagine that hell is a pretty popular place. Why not go there? I'll save ya' a seat on the plane.

Heaven and Hell are real in that it exists in the minds of the people that are alive and believe in it. With that said, when I die, I will probably go to hell in the minds of those that believe in that sort of thing. In reality though... I think it will be like going to sleep, but without the dreaming... so nothing, which is kind of hard to conceptualize.

Intuition is not enough to justify anything. It can be a sign pointing the way to truth, but it can just as easily point away from it. In the case of Heaven and Hell, it points away from the truth. Religion is just a way that scared people clam their nerves.

Heaven is real and that's where God is.
By the way, if Jesus Christ is living inside of you then there the Father is also and you feel them through His Holy Spirit.
Hell is a place outside the wall of Jerusalem. If you are meaning the lake of fire then that's different.
Christ men and women are always ready to come home when they are called.

I don't believe anyone wants to go to hell, and if they do they are not smart enough to know what they are going to endure. Read the bible in Revelation. It is pure evil in hell, and I totally vote for HEAVEN. But its not as easy as choosing, you have to live a life for God according to the bible to get to heaven. Being a good person is not good enough.

If I was to die today, I would repent for my sins, ask for forgiveness and say as many "Hail Marys" as I could. Next thing you know I'm floating on a cloud, flapping my wings and strumming a harp. What a boring concept of eternity. Maybe I wouldn't after all.

The most important part of your question is: IF
It doesn't matter WHEN people started believing in heaven or hell.
What about the people who lived BEFORE written history? What about babies who die? They don't believe.
How selfish and self-serving of those people who say ONLY if you believe in MY religion, you will go to heaven.
Do you actually believe that god is THAT STUPID???!!!???
