I'm starting college pretty soon, and I'd like to get an insight on what college life is like. Is it all about wild parties? Or do students mellow down to a more mature lifestyle?

College parties are more reckless than high school parties cuz most of the students are at the legal age and living without parents. The parties also depend on which uni/college you are attending. My older sis is at the University of Western Ontario and it was ranked #1 for parties, beating the American schools. The schools known more for their academics (like U of T, Yale, Harvard) will have wild parties, but probably not as many. Spring break is also really fun cuz most ppl are finished for the year and head to the south for cool parties.

You'll also notice that there is a lot more stress cuz everything is a lot more difficult than high school. You make some of your best friends in uni too! You're on your own most of the time and you get to experiment with new things and it's lots of fun! Good luck in your studies!

http://college.sparknotes.com/ is a really great site for understanding college life cuz it's written by those who attend college or have graduated.

A University (i presume you will be going to a University and not a community college) is actually quite fascinating with regard to how drastically your lifestyle actually changes. Inceptively you are frightened and quite honestly miss being home. It also depends on the person as well. If all you want out of your college career is a good time and wild parties, then that is what you will get out of it. If you are serious about college you can blend the two, a mature lifestyle and partying, into the best time of your life. It is true that you do become more responsible and most of all self reliant. You are coming unto your own and finally you will be introduced into the real world. The biggest and most important thing to remember is to manage your time appropriately and you will be fine.

College will be the best time of your life as long as you stick with it (i think it takes more people longer then they expect to adjust... most people I know hated it the first year.) However, you can make what you want out of it. there are so many different people that you can choose the wild parties, or the mellow life, or many other ways of living... but whatever you pick, it's great!

I graduated from college. If you make it "all about wild parties" you won't last very long. College takes hard work & incredible determination. More than 50% of the freshmen fail out or drop out the first year. If you decide from the beginning that failure is not an option, you will succeed.

The girl above is wrong - it is not like high school at all. You have very little responsibility in HS, unlike college. You are given the freedom to choose your own path. Choose wisely

I have been in college for three years. It is a time of rigorous responsibility for one's actions. Most students work, study and attend school all at the same time. Some in thier first year away from home make lots of bad decisions because of their newfound freedom. Please be careful about this. I have done my share of partying and when you get down to it, it didn't help me succeed in my academics. Believe in yourself and know what you want in life. Go out there and get it!

Being financially responsible for yourself and making all your own decisions with no parental guidance is liberating but also stressful. You will make some of your best friends in college.

But, remember you are there for you.
