I was in Tamarindo in May 2004. I hated the road from San Jose to Tamarindo because it was full of potholes. Other than that, I loved everything about Tamarindo. We stayed at El Capitan Suizo hotel. It is located in a quiet area of the town. I loved the beach, the ocean, the tours that we took (snorkeling, sunset cruise). And I loved our honeymoon :-)

Tamarindo is a cool place with many things to do there. There is great surfing there and nearby as well as an estuary where you can kayak and see many animals including cayman and monkeys. You can also walk along the endless beaches and check out the reefs. Canopy tours are there as well as watching the Marine Turtles nest and hatch at Playa Grande (just north of Tamarindo). There also great restaurants as well as a small bar scene. I recommend it.

Tamarindo is a great town, you'll feel very comfortable... lots of restaurants, hotels, internet cafes, craft stores and friendly people.
Check out Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course, it is a paradise!
Be careful in San José (downtown) lots of pickpockets, specially when they see tourists!

San Jose, what a great city. It bothered me that there no perception of personal space, but I got used to it.
