Is a pitcher being visited on the mound during a rough inning by his pitching coach / manager akin to the office worker being called on the carpet by his boss? In a way, the message in both instances is, "you'd better shape up or you're outta here"!

Without knowing what the conversation entails, I can't answer that question specifically. Usually, the pitching coach is trying to calm down a nervous pitcher and remind him that he's good enough o get into the big leagues. When the manager comes out, it's a pretty good indication that there is going to be a pitching change. A lot depends upon the pitch count. When a pitcher gets sent back down to the minors is when the message 'Shape up or ship out' goes into effect.

It is not really the same, as a manager of 17 years I call people into the office for coaching reason, good reason and discpline reason, so it could be that as a baseball coach he is really out there to make sure that you are ok and do some coaching to help out.

There is nothing wrong with a little help now and then, if that was the case we would be perfect and not need any coaching in our lives.

good luck

Always remember, Mickey Mantle originally came out of the minor leagues wearing the number six. After one season, someone decided he couldn't hit !

After a year in the minor leagues, Mantle was called back and wearing the number 7, the rest is history. So, the morale of the story is...never stop trying.

If Mickey Mantle could do it, so could you. And, don't worry about the wrong people in position at the work place who, somehow, have found a way to be in charge.

Keep swinging away....and, keep pitchin. Someone will appreciate you.

Except for sports is supposed to be fun unless your being paid for it. Anything that you're being paid to do you're also accountable and responsible to your supervisor for. If a person is being negligent and slacking off you probably deserve and good reaming out by the boss/coach.

In a way but they try to stay more positive and try to encourage them to do good and give them tips to get the next batter out. They try to calm the pitcher down so he isn't overwhelmed and can just focus again.

Yep. Punch your boss in the mouth if he does that to you.
