how can you tell if leather is real or fake??

Scratch it, then try to rub the scratch off. If it comes out it's not real leather.

Generally, the pores in real leather are not all the same size nor the same distance apart, but they are the same size in fake leather and are evenly spaced. The pores in real leather will get larger when they get wet and will soak in the water, fake leather will remain the same size and usually repels water. Real leather will stretch when wet and shrink back when it dries, and gets a bit stiff. Fake leather will stretch and remain stretched, wet or dry, and not shrink back.

And fake leather doesn't smell like animal - real leather does, especially when damp.

sometimes it hard these days...But real leather , weither it clothes or on couch , should feel warm....it should never feel cold . (cold like plastic)
but yes , ive sold leather couches before, and u should know that there many Grades of leather and diffrent top coates aswel (for protection)
ask the sales person...they cant lie (wel usaly) if it clothing , there should be a label somewhere too

i can not tell. for this reason, if i do no longer see on the product "actual leather-based" or "a hundred% guy made components" or something to that result, i do no longer purchase it. this way, i'm no longer helping issues i do no longer decide for to help.
