Find the least common multiple for 4 and 8. It is 8.
Multiply everything by 8
8(10x) - 8(1/4) = 8(9x) + 8(3/8)
80x - 2 = 72x + 3
Subtract 72 x from each side
8x - 2 = 3
Add 2 to each side
8x = 5
Divide each side by 8
x = 5/8
