If it's the Cage movie, sure it is based on a true story. Just think about this...it's fact that we have numerous arm dealers in the U.S., including the government itself. It's a huge, highly profitable, and, quite often, also destructive business. If a government has a need, who cares how the needs are met, so long as they are met. If you have any way of providing someone in your neighborhood a means to defend themselves, i.e, a pistol, in return for a huge amount of money would you do it. Even if you wouldn't do you think anyone else would. Welcome to the world of supply and demand.......the world of business, the business of war. Absolutely, positively, based on a true story. Unfortunately, I am not sure of your age, but, believe me when I tell you there is a relatively young man from Russia named Victor Bout who has been linked to numerous international arms deals with many countries. One of the scenarios in the movie revolves around AK-47's. It is common knowledge that Bout has several airlines at his disposal, in a major way. Nearly a quarter million AK's came up missing in the middle east once, no secret that one of Bout's planes were supposed to have been the airline carrier. This guy, who has been nicknamed, Dr. Death, the Merchant of Death, etc also bears likeness to Cage's character in the movie. Search yahoo for Victor Bout. This is more than a movie......it's the real deal.

It's loosely based on the stories of a few different arms dealers, basically taking an event or two from each of their lives and making them all happen to Nic Cage's character, and then adding a whole bunch of fictional filler.

It doesn't say it's a true story at the end of the movie, it says it's based on actual events. Huge difference.
