Tell them while you are out on maternity leave. This will give them a good 4-6 weeks to find a replacement. I know a lot of mothers that decided during their leave not to go back.
And I would tell them your pregnant around 3 months. A lot of women like to make it past their first trimester.

I don't think you should wait any longer to let your employer know. At the longest, I would wait until the second trimester. If your employer will be upset, that means you are going to be hard to replace. I suggest letting them know as soon as possible, so they have adequate time to find some one to fill your position. I am very big on honesty and respect, so I would plan out exactly what I want to say, and go have a talk with them first thing Monday morning. Just explain that you want to stay home with your child, that is your choice. Also, there is something called the family medical leave act. You may need to take advantage of that. I wish you much luck, in your job, and with your wonderful new blessing. I hope the pregnancy goes extremely well, congratulations to you! Have a wonderful day.

Well I think you should wait until after your first trimester, but I wouldn't tell them until you are actually on your maternity leave b/c most employers will find a way to terminate you before your ready. That cuts their cost b/c of the insurance benefits that you will lose. It's the nature of the beast and it boils down to dollars and cents. Good Luck!!!

As a mother who was previously in this situation, I think you are obligated to tell them at no later than four months, because depending on what kind of work you do, you may need to adjust your load to accomodate the pregnancy (for babies' safety). As far as telling them your not coming back, that can wait until you've already started your leave. No-one can fault you for deciding to "stay home" w/baby. Then you can guiltlessly look for a new job when your ready!

after a while it will become obvious that you are preg. id try to say something b4 that point. and that may be the time to tell him you will not be returning. i dont know what kind of place you are employed at. if you have a job that will look real good on a resume you dont want to ditch the ppl at the last minute but if you are in fast food of something similar who cares. really you can get a job at ne fast food restraunt. but if you have some sort of office job or other highly credited job it could effect you being hired on other places in the future and just because you dont plan on returnig after the baby is born, perhaps sometime eventually you may decide you would like to go back to work n leaving on good terms plus the previous experience would help you on getting hired back on.
now that i have completed my novel i shall sign off.
good luck mommy!!

Tell them your pregnant, before you start showing. As far as not going back, I wouldn't tell them until about 4 weeks after the baby is born. Then all I say is I've decided to be a stay at home Mom. If you tell them now they may cut your insurance. So go on your leave when you have to and leave it at that. Good Luck with your baby.

You should give your employer a heads up about your pregnancy ASAP. It's common courtesy, especially if you will miss work for appointments and such. Plus, you don't want a bulging belly giving you away! As for leave, if it's unpaid (like most are), I wouldn't worry about it until the issue comes up. If your boss asks, be as honest as you feel you need to. I was pretty sure I would be a SAHM, but I waited until after my daughter was born to make sure my husband would be able to pick up the work.

You should have No worry Unless Your Boss or Company are A__H____. I have had Several Ladies work for Me to Become Pregnant and Work Up Until Their Due Date or MD told them they were Safe. You only Have 3 Months and they will Figure it Out. Honesty is the Best Policy. Good Luck Sweetie.

Don't put it off- give your employer as much time as possible to prepare for you leaving. They'll appreciate it.
