"You just don't understand" by Deborah Tannen. Opened my eyes to the difference between communication styles between men and women. Reaized how stupid I'd been for 20 years, when talking to women.
In a nutshell, women often don't want a solution; they want sympathy. Men don't understand that. They give solutions. The woman doesn't get the sympathy she wants. Even worse, the man thinks the obvious answer has eluded the woman, so he will help out the poor helpless fluffy little thing with the obvious answer.
She KNOWS what one possible answer is, but women don't solve problems by hitting people with a 2x4. She just wants some sympathy. When she doesn't hit the offending brother-in-law with a 2x4, the man thinks he's wasted time giving perfectly good advice.
Both sides are unhappy.
I've said "I know just what you mean" to my wife three times a week since that book, without offering a hint of a suggestion, and she thinks I'm absolutely wonderful.

I would have to say that the book "The Diary of a Young Girl" had the most impact on me. I read it when I was in 7th grade.
I like to do a lot of reading and am very drawn to anything about the holocaust.

The Diary of Anne Frank (any books regarding the holocaust)
Dear America: Letters from Vietnam (Very sad letters, I am a fast reader but this one took me at least three days cuz every time I turned around I was crying and I would have to stop reading)
Only two I can think of at the moment.

The book "Beloved" had a major impact on me. Toni Morrison's style of writing is unique, and this book really got to the heart of what is means to be a slave.

There are 3:
1) To Kill a Mockingbird
2) My Sister's Keepber by Jodi Picoult - It's about the sacrifices we make for the people we love
3) He's Just Not that Into You - You laugh, but each time I read it, I realize what I'm doing wrong in relationships and how I can improve

the bible is a great book but if you do not read & transelate it properly then you have gained nothing, that is why there is many books out there explaining it, such as the talmud, code of jewish law , lessons in tanya, and so on. The truth is that these books which I have just mentioned are not really separate from the bible they are an actual part of it - the proof is that there is many verses in the bible for which it is impossible to know exatly what they are refering to without the package deal of the oral tradition which is also from G-d - these commentaries.

The book was called 'My Indian Brother' Iam not sure when I read it (age about 9) but I remember being 'inspired'
I now Carry no less than 5 books in my car. I am never without a friend.
When others cuss the long lines at banks, DMV, or airports I just smile and consult my current friend..
