I guess Australia will be the runner-up of Group F, and so they'll meet the winner of Group E, which would be Italy, Czech or Ghana, where they would have a possibility to win as the main contenders for the Cup are not here.
If they go on to Round 3, they'll meet the teams from Group G and H who have been playing rather sloppily so far.
So, I guess they may have a chance to move on, but I doubt they'll win the Cup, as I'm hoping that England would win again after 40 years!!!

In the World Cup anything can happen. I'm an Aussie and sooooo proud of how the boys took it to Brazil. The score was not an indication of just how competitive the match was. We do have the ability to advance through, but they're not going to win 2006, although that would be a dream come true. The Socceroo's have already exceeded all expectations from us Aussies and we could not have asked more of them. They will certainly have earned some much deserved respect today though and the world has now opened up for them. They will beat Croatia with the defence shown today and after that well gee, who knows.

I seriously doubt it. Maybe in about 10 or 20 years but at the moment they're a bit to heavy handed in the way they play. With referees stamping down on dangerous tackles Australia will suffer. You can't win every match with 9 or 10 men no matter how good you are.

I'm Aussie to the core, but I'll say no.
But for 48 mins, they had a sniff of what it would be like. This can only make the Aussies hungrier.
Imran Khan said that there was nothing more dangerous than a wounded tiger.
A wounded kangaroo would surely be dangerous too.

I wouldn't count on it. Did you see Argentina against Serbia&Montenegro? They're on fire. And so is Brazil and Germany, not to mention Ghana, Mexico and Portugal. And let's not forget about Spain who defeated Ukraine 4-0. Competition's too tough and I doubt Australia can take it.

I think I speak for most of the world when I say:
That would be GREAT!
But, Australia isn't ready yet to make a run at the championship.
My fingers are tightly crossed to see the Aussies advance to round 2.

the 2-0 score did definately not reflect the game, australia did themselves proud. i reckon they could go a fair way in the tournament, thats the great thing about the world cup, technically, anyone could win. although having seen argentina play i think they may be the team to be reckoned with. x

Sadly no. But if they continue the way they have they can certainly win a lot of friends and maybe go a 1 step further than the group stage.
