When I'm stuck in traffic the RPM'S will go up to over 1 and the temperature gauge needle will go down below "C" (cold). It will do that in relatively rapid succession until I get moving again. If I'm stuck in traffic for a while, it starts to smell "hot". If I don't keep my foot firmly on the brake I know it will lurch forward. It's as if it senses I'm frustrated about being in traffic and copies me. When I'm driving on the open road it doesn't do that.

It's a 2000 Saturn SC2 w/ 180,000 miles on it. And I know that I should take it in to have it serviced- duh! I'm just wondering what could be wrong with it.
