This may be strange but my book would be a series called the Lensmen, written in the late '30s and '40s. The core concept was that there were two forces shaping the galaxy's future. One a positive force, the other dark, and evil. The series follows that warfare through history and into the future, where men (human and alien) become the tools to break the efforts the dark forces. From then on, I could relate to the condition of the earth. There are two forces, one wanting the best for mankind, the other, only wanting to bring chaos and ruin to the world of mankind. Only then I thought of it as the political powers that were these forces. It was only years later, when studying the Bible, did I see that was the reality of our existence. So, I joined the side of Light, and have tried to live by His standards since then. I became one of Jehovah's Witnesses and have fighting the fight. Ephesians 6:10 Finally, go on acquiring power in [the] Lord and in the mightiness of his strength. 11 Put on the complete suit of armor from God that YOU may be able to stand firm against the machinations of the Devil; 12 because we have a wrestling, not against blood and flesh, but against the governments, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places. 13 On this account take up the complete suit of armor from God, that YOU may be able to resist in the wicked day and, after YOU have done all things thoroughly, to stand firm. Of course I don't have the cool space ships of the Lensmen, but I do have the backing of the Sovereign of the Universe. Edited for Joseph J Yes, the Bible is a true source of spiritual awakening, but the question was there a book that moved you to see that there was a 'spiritual' side to yourself. Sometimes a "normal" author can awaken such in a person. That is the fear of all totalitarian governments and that is why books are burned. Read "Fahrenheit 451" another that I would put on a list of books that opened my mind FORGET THE MOVIES THEY MISS THE POINT
