you go to my documents, click on security options, and enter your password. once you enter it, you have to always enter it in order to go to that file. kk.

Windows XP Home Edition does not have file encryption; however, Windows XP Pro does have encryption. In order to encrypt a file in Windows XP Home Edition you are going to need to download and install a encryption utility. You can use either WinZip or WinRAR to compress the file and then add a password to the zip file. Though these two compression applications are shareware, even after the trial period, the two programs will continue to work without any limitation. Please refer to the following article:

1.) Windows Tips: Password-Protect Your Sensitive Files and Folders -- PC World. (http://www.pcworld.com/resource/printable/article/0,aid,110663,00.asp)

Another application I recommend is Encryption on Click:

"EncryptOnClick V1.1.4 is a program that lets you securely encrypt and decrypt files. Ensure the files you want to keep safe and out of view from others stay that way. The program is very simple to use and features military grade 256-bit AES encryption." --2BrightSparks Software

The utility is a freeware and is incredibly easy to use. It provides 256 bit encryption which is the best any commercial can offer - at least for now.

I hope this helps.
