i mean the UN has resolved exacly 0 conflicts since its creation in 1945, it has succesfuly presured 0 naitions into doing anything ever. so why do people keep pretending the war in Iraq is illigal because we didnt get the permision of a useless organization that has never done anything?

alright lets clear up some stuf, unlike certain politicians, i know what im talking about. the main organization responsible for the continuing lack or major wars since WWII is NATO, the 60% of the aid the UN so generously "gives" comes from the US treasury, the CDC (center for desease control) an American Government organization based in Atlanta, Georgia worked directly in conjunction with other nations to eliminate smallpox. And im going to let you in on a little secret; polio is still around!!! my moms friends son has polio!

The United Nations is a very effective organization. It does much more than is commonly reported. Look at the what it has done for education in third world nations. It also has been instrumental in saving millions of children from disease & famine--look at their immunization programs that have just about obliterated diseases (such as polio, smallpox etc.) They have been instrumental in improving the situation for educating girls (in many nations girls were never allowed to go to school). The UN is a great concept--it provides a space for the world's to come together to try to settle their differences. Since it is not a world government, it can only be as effective as its member states will allow.

The UN was created by Russia, the US, and several other of the Allied forces after the 2nd World War. When used properlly it is a very effective tool. However it has not been used that way in quite some time.

Because they are, have done a lot, kept a lot of countries out of wars and helped with famine relief and Forces to maintain peace under the UN

Why do you think it isn't?

The US started the UN!!

I guess you just want to have a free-for-all where we become the American Empire!

Got to love those Fascist Neo-Cons!

Fricker, why don't you go look and see what the UN HAS DONE before making such uninformed statements!
