I understand Superman is the man of steel. The other day someone shot him with a machine gun and the bullets just bounced off his chest! My question is why doesn't the bullets make holes in his suit? Is his suit super too?

That because he's near invulnerabity thanks to his Kryptonian body in which the earth's sun makes his body a living solar battery. Superman can still be hurt with large salvo rounds (this makes Supes very human) and also the radioactive kryptonite can hurt and even kill the Man of Steel. Magic can also hurt or kill Supes. Hope this helps you.

In the comic books, Supes aura can make his costume also invulnerable except his cape in which it always becomes tattered after a physical battle.

The obvious answer is that the suit is also from Krypton, but how did they know his size? The legend is that the suit is made from the blanket that he arrived on earth in. If thats the case, how did they sew it? wouldn't the needle break?

Then theres the whole issue of the bullet bouncing thing. There are many occasions in the old television series starring George Reeves, where superman is being shot at and he is standing strong, hands on hips, bravely bouncing bullets off his chest. The bad guy, once he has emptied the gun at supie, then decides to chuck the gun at him. This is where Superman DUCKS THE THROWN GUN!!!! What, is he bulletproof but not thrown gun proof?!? Bad planning there.

So, have I answered your question? Probably not, but I think I've earned my 2 points.

If I recall properly, he apparently emits a thin protective shield around him so his suit is protective unless he's shot with a kryptonite bullet or is deprived of sunlight and so can't regenerate. This is all said on the series, don't think it is in the films anywhere.

That's just his nickname, he's not made of steel.

He's flesh and blood, except he's from a planet with a red sun, and under the light of a yellow sun, he has super powers.
