Some people might say its because judges are incorrectly interpreting the law or that they place too much emphasis on the fact thats some please guilty therefore making the whole process quicker (and cheaper).
Some people may say that certain judges have certain tendencies and look after their own.
Its wrong whatever it is. That baby rape thing made me sick for days. one hour with me in a soundproof cell. I would happily dispense some justice.

Because of stupid laws that state if someone pleads guilty they MUST have a 1/3 reduction on their sentence. And because the judges are no longer allowed to sentence to just life. They have to sentence to life with a tariff (the tariff is the time they MUST serve before they are eligible for parole). So although the sentence may seem lighter it does not necessarily mean it is. And even if they are released the offender will then be on what is called a Life LIcence and they will have to report to Probation and Police several times a week, in a lot of cases everyday, and the slightest misdemeanor will result in then going back to prison.
I am not saying this is a good thing because i see some terrible cases getting off easy and feel incredibly ill about it all of time, but this is because of the serious overcrowing in our prison which is predicted to rise.
On another note, i know the recent scandals but what people dont hear is the many, many more that are sentenced correctly when the judge says that, especially in the cases of child abuse, that he hopes they NEVER get parole. The parole board will see that comment and will, hopefully, judge correctly.
It's not a perfect system, we all know that, but the hands of the Judges are, most often, tied.

Because Tony Blair, in his infinite wisdom, signed this country up to the European convention on human rights, and too many members of the judiciary follow it to the letter. The human rights act is nothing more than a criminal's charter, and the sooner it is abrogated, the better. The only way that this will be achieved is if Britain pulls out of the EU, and both chief constables and judges are elected by the people. This would weed out the politically-correct, looney leftie element who are making this country a total laughing stock. As for paedophiles, there is only one punishment they deserve; the gas chamber. I would gladly be the executioner. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to rid the world of these filthy, perverted parasite SCUM! And if the bleeding heart, hand-wringing, human rights lobby are reading this and are drawing great gasps, all I've got to say is; you are as bad as they are, and deserve to go the same way. Where are the human rights of the victims? Answer me that.

Unfortunately this is looked upon more as a mental health issue - as paedophiles, in their mind think this is normal behaviour (in a lot of cases paedophiles were abused as children) and they do not see that it is sick and perverted.

my guess. there are any number of reasons - pick one.
children don't vote.
rich folks think it doesn't happen to their kids-
or else they keep it quite to avoid a scandal
tough case, hard to prove, hard on the children as witnesses.
most law makers are men and men know they like 'pyt'...
pretty - young - things and when it's their time to face the music they will want their peers to go easy on them. look how long it took for MURDEROUS drunk driving... and they actually took a life.
and i beg to differ. something of monetary value!!.... are you on drugs?.... how do you put a price tag on a 5 year old child's innocence? would you be so generous 'if' you were the victim. jessica

Here's another strange inequity: getting caught playing internet poker in Washington State will now get you a sentence as strong as possessing CHILD PORNOGRAPHY! Huh? Me playing poker with my own money hurts (potentially) one person: me. Possessing or producing child pornography, which is among the most dispicable things a person can do, harms children.
