Many aquatic turtles (sliders, cooters, maps, painteds, etc.), the male will put their front claws by the side of their head and wave (vibrate) it back and forth quickly. They often to this tio attract females, but also as a sign of dominance.
I don't know if you'd call it practice, but males will constantly try to mount females, whether either one is mature or not. Some can call it practice and some call it persistence. lol

Most species of vertebrates use some courtship or mating ritual before mating. Also, most animals practice the ritual without mating, or spend a few times doing it for an unreceptive potential mate.
If your turtles are doing the dance, they could easily end up mating- assuming both are dancing.

Ya haven't you ever seen a turtle mate before? Pschhhhh its like the most common thing to see a turtle mate, I mean i see it daily!
