I'm all about the lycanthropes, baby, but I think people are more fascinated with vampires because werewolves are only werewolves once a month. They can be in the light. Vampires are vampires forevverrr, with prolonged lifespans and a dislike of the sun. Werewolves are still socially (and religiously) accepted people... as long as the full moon's not out.

because we are human and for the most part they are also. so there is a connection. people who find connection with animals over people will find lycanthropes a more suitable match. all are vicious and all kill both vampire and lycanthrope. but we can attach human emotions with human features. it is harder for the vast majority to understand animal behavior. also we as humans show a natural tendency to the dark side of life. Rome and Babylon fell because of it and i would assume many other cultures have also. we find a fascination with serial murderers or rapists. like Alice we long to see the other side other of the looking glass. a vampire is the dark underside of human nature. most people are not in tune with the animal side of themselves so they do not understand that a lycanthrope could be any animal not just wolves. to far of a leap to make from human to animal. an easier transition from human to vampire as they retain their human features.

I haven't heard of a lycanthropes. In fact I have no clue what it is. So that is why people are probably more fascinated with vampires. Because no one ever talks about lycanthropes.

i think it's because vampires are known to be calculating and mischievous. while werewolfs are berzerker creatures. either way, there are historical accounts of both.
vampires: Vlad Tepees Dracula (aka: Vlad the Impaler)
Bloody Mary
Elizabeth Bathory
and some accounts of vampiric cults that committed crimes. plus the psychic vampires.
as for lycanthropes, i can only think of two people. one guy who was on either the history channel or the discovery channel, and Albert Fish (the serial killer) was/is suspected to have the condition.

Plus vampires carry a romantic aura about them and people are attracted to that. Not many people are fascinated with something that tears apart and just kills people. There isn't any allure in that.

For one, it could simply be the presence of such accounts and obvious evidence. Vampyres aren't quite subject to such validity.
Also, Vampyres are far more haunting and perhaps more of a real possibility. Vampyres want to do what they do; lycanthopes don't. Vampyres are always out; you only worry about lycanthropes during the full moon... And also, Vampyres produce an allure like werewolves can't; they're supposed to be beautiful creatures, whether male or female, and of immense power. Werewolves are just beasts...there's nothing too special about them...

Vampires are considered far more romantic. A werewolf is basically just a beast, and doesn't even know who or what he is in were-form.
A vampire is a human that has been transformed, often against his/her will, into a creature that must consume blood to live. He knows what has happened to him; some revel in it (Lestat), and some are haunted by it (Louis). Also, for the times, "Dracula" was a book that hinted at some serious sex, and vampires are often viewed as sexual creatures.

Vampires fall into the gothic nitch that people investigating the dark side of humanity just fall in love with.
Lycanthropes, contrary to popular belief are not just confined to werewolves. Not everyone likes the idea of wolf men. Not everyone likes wolves. Just the idea alone in mythology that there was a sect of gaelic fighters that praised Morrigan, one of those goddesses of war and demons, and those fighters were said to fight like demons and change to wolves, just begs more investigation. However, no one really wants to delve that far into it all, since it was a warriors story and not a romantic notion of everlasting eternal love.

werewolves scare me so bad. they are savage and will just rip out your throat. vampires on the other hand can at least make your death romantic, or do some mind tricks so it isn't so bad. when u see a werewolf, u know u should be running and when u see a vampire, u r like, " wait, there's something about him. . " that is why i prefer vampires over werewolves. oh, and thanks for pointing that out about the historical accounts. i will never sleep again!!!!!
