I'm going into high school this fall. I have to get a physical first. My mom made the appointment already for next week. What all do they do? Do I have to get shots?

A high school physical should not stress you at all. It is simply a check of all of your systems. It will involve your weight, height, blood pressure, pulse rate, rate of breathing. The doctor will check your eyes, ears, nose, throat, neck, chest, heart, lungs, abdomen, genitals (including your sexual development, penis, scrotum, testicles, or a pelvic possibly for a female. The doctor should also do exams for you basic strength, arms and legs, check your reflexes and circulation by finding pulses in your arms, legs and feet. The doctor should check your skin to see if there are any moles or diseases that involve the skin. A few simple blood tests to check your blood count, and urine, and maybe a chest film. This would just about finish the exam. If there are any problems, this should be discussed with you and your parents. Any recommendations then would be given to help you improve or maintain your health. All of this is very important and should help you and your parents keep you fit and feeling good while you attend high school.

Depends on the state you live in, but in Florida it's a simple exam that checks your blood pressure, pulse, spine, sometimes eyes, respiratory rate/lung capacity, boys get a testicular exam, finger prick (hemoglobin test to determine white cell count, iron, etc.), and urine sample. If you're an athlete, the exam could entail much more to rule out heart conditions and brain disorders.

Is the physical at your high school or with your primary care doctor? One of the things I remember them checking was your head for lice, and they check for scoliosis (of the back). You put both hands in front of you palms together and bend slowly forward at the waist. They can tell if you have something wrong from that motion.

They just check all of your body parts, and they do some other stuff. It's not painful.

They probably will give you some shots, and they may also draw some blood. It is called a "finger prick", and it only hurts for like two seconds. It'll hurt more if you work yourself up.

You'll be fine.

He will be anxoious about getting an erection or feeling he has a small penis, the service who's doing the actual isnt worried about any of those products, so with somewhat of success your son gained't stay "crying about it"

you'll probably get some blood drawn for basic tests, and possibly immunizations. (shots)

he may look down your throat, up your nose, in your ears, and poke at your belly. probably not much more than that, but, why don't you ask your mom?

I doubt you will get shots. They check to make sure you don't have any hidden problems. They don't want you to die. It is very simple, and you have nothing to worry about, unless you have a problem you don't know about and then it would be good to know. :-)
