I am not an adult, but that just make these observations more credible (or perhaps just biased). It seems that many are so interested in becoming mature (doing all the things "adults" do) that they forget to grow up. To quote a piece I made for an art class on the subject, "we place numbers on death, lose childhood morals, and find comfort in coins, power,& *******. (or any combination thereof.) " So the realization of being adult, I predict, is when one can look upon their life, find it worthwhile, and realize they are independent in their thoughts, actions and lifestyle. Freedom.

Well my daughter is 23 and she just saw a picture of herself and said mom I look like an adult? My son however is 26 and just had his first attempt at an adult relationship and the girl was still to immature to have one with him. He said I think I am an adult? I think it all depends on emotional maturity? You can be an adult at any age really. I know some adults that act like kids :)

I just turned 18 and gave birth. I had no choice but to realize I was an adult. I believe most people have one experience when them come to the realization.

I realized I was an adult when I stopped telling my parents: "Don't tell me what to do. I'm an adult!"
Once I began to act like a responsible adult, I did not need to tell anyone that I was, my actions spoke for themselves.

I didnt' realize I was an adult until I was 20 and living on my own, supporting myself by paying rent, bills, etc. My parents do pay for school, but trying to do everything else makes me feel old!

i took a while to accept it, but 18 was way too soon for me. I'd say around 24.
one day i heard a mom tell her child to "go ask that man over there" the kid wouldn't cuz he was afraid of me and the mom said,"excuse me sir" i realized i was really a grown man and was a lil disappointed in myself for being so immature

When I had to file my first income tax form. Ugh.
And when I realized there were some (real world) things that I could do better than my parents. That was a scary moment, actually.
Actually, both were scary.
