I watched Gahna vs CR to see if America would advance (ew, I hate soccer but love America) and at the end of 90 minuts I got up to leave...but time kept going for 3:22....WTF!?

They add injury time, whenever the play is stopped, they time it, and then at the end of the half and at the end of the game, they add all of the stoppage time back on.

as you can see the time doesnt stops all the match so they added 3 minutes for all the time lost in faults, goals, offsides, changes etc

yeah, this happens because in the FIFA World Cup they have this thing called "stop time" that they add to each half for all the times they have to stop. (fouls, goals, offsides, injury time, etc.)
