How much is enough for a really good vacation for one week on the east coast including car rental and gas, food and drinks, and hotel fees, and some entertainment for 5 people for 7 days and nights on the east coast?

Car rental rated will vary widely depending on how long you rent, if you travel out of state, if you get unlimited mileage, and where you rent from. With 5 people, you'll need at least a full sized car or SUV. One person and their spouse will be the only people able to drive it. You also have to be 24, unless you want a hefty per day surcharge. For gas, get the smallest car you can all fit comfortably in - this will hopefully increase your mileage. I'll guess $250 for the five days to be safe (with gas).
For hotels - what do you consider "really good"? I mean, you can spend $5000 a night for a suite, or $150-250 a night to stay in Westins, Sheratons, and Hiltons. In town will be more expensive than the suburbs. And, figure 10% or more for taxes. We'll figure at $250, taxes included.
So far, $1500 total.
For "really good" places to eat, figure $45 per person for food & drinks at medium end places. That's $1125 for dinner alone. Figure another $30/pp for inexpensive breakfasts and lunches. That's another $750.
Total estimate without fees, parking, or anything 'special' is
750
1125
+1500
-----------
$3375
You will probably want to allow another $100 a night for drinks, possibly more for taxis, and $100 a day for incidentals.

+$500
----------
$4375

u can cut down hotel expenses by almost 50% at http://www.hotelroomsaver.com/, they have car rental discounts as well. u can have decent meals @ $20 per person, so this will reduce your food budget from above example. I would budget around $ 2000

Where are you going, prices vary greatly. Entertainment prices vary, for example Philly has programs where if you spend one night you get one free, this would radically lower your costs. NOt knowing where your going, figure 3500.00 on the safe side

It all depends on your taste and size of your pocket. However minimum will be US$ 1500.00 per person for 7 days and nights.

1 person, about 4k...i think any vacation now adays runs that..no matter where you go..i've been looking for ticket to europe and it's pretty equal to a trip to singapore, which i also looked up and to new york...so, for a comfortable trip, everything inc. plus a little spending dough, 4k.
