Why when putting on mascara, you just automatically open your mouth while doing it. I happens to everyone and I think their is some link between the mouth and the eyes or something like that, that makes you open your mouth. Any one with answers or insight would be great! Thanks!

Some of the nerves that open the eyelids are connected to the mouth. So when you widen them to apply mascara your mouth widens too.

I'm a guy and I don't wear Mascara but I know the reason. Holding your mouth open can help to keep you from blinking. I don't know why it works but as an Optician I've noticed for years that people also do this while putting on contact lenses. When I teach new patients how to insert lenses I sometimes suggest that they try it and it seems to work for a lot of people.

lol... its a reaction
just like why do people automatically open their mouth when they look up.... check it out. almost everyone does that
know what i think... it helps the concentration because we sure as hell concentrate when puttin on mascara... last thing i need is to get poked in the eye with mascara. lmao

The best I can come up with is that when you do the look for mascara, it looks almost as if you are shocked. I guess it just feels easier to do the whole face instead of just part of it.

Opening your mouth when appling mascara allows the mascara to go on without clumping, and it lengthens you lashes.

i belive its just a slight pull of the muscles but not enough that you absolutly have to open your mouth. if you try hard enough you can put mascara on without opening your mouth.

I agree with the answer above, it's a reflex and we basically do it not to poke ourselves in the eye lol. but I don't always do it. I guess if you're an expert... (lol, just kidding)

when you open your mouth and raise your forehead. it makes the eyes open wider. we learn that from watching other people do it.
