700R4. They can handle a decent amount of HP like up to 400, cost is about the same as others and you get great gas mileage because of the overdrive.

Turbo 350 with a decent rear end ( around 3.25 ratio). The 700r4 are weak, they can't handle hp and won't go into overdrive at WOP(wide open throttle). The turbo 400 takes a little more hp from the motor and is heavier. It ultimately depends on your engine/car combination and what kind of performance you are expecting.

small block = 700r4, they arent weak, well the first models that came out like in 1984 were, but have been improved since then.
they are basically a th350 w/od. check out bowtieoverdrives.com
big block - th400 with a Gear Vendors overdrive kit on it or a 4L80E
or my favorites the M22 Rock Crusher or the SM 465 BullDog, depending on if its going into a muscle car or a truck.

between the th350 and th400 are to my opinion the best made but the th 350 is faster due to less friction parts and gear ratio but the th400 is stronger more friction parts and heavier built but it is a tad slower shifting then the th350 .
