Cubism i.e.,painting pictures with straight lines as if of a cube.It was unusual.It was liberalising the style till then & was accepted by people. See the web.

He was 'used' after the fact when public oppinion had shifted toward the bad things that went on in spain. So he did not bring it on by his paintings, although he did paint them before the situation 'became famous'.

But thats just me talking.
