I read a study somewhere that showed women are more intelligent than men on the average. However, there is a greater spread of male intelligence and consequently the most intelligent men are more intelligent than the most intelligent women. This is why most of the great artist and scientists, and most successful business people, are men and explains the 'glass ceiling' of feminist rhetoric.

Again, this is a probability function, which means that in the long term most of the great intellectual achievements will be made by men. But that doesn't mean that there won't be any made by women, or that there won't be a period during which women will be the highest achievers.

So, although women are, on the average, more intelligent than men, the most intelligent men are, on the average, more intelligent than the most intelligent women.

No they are not. Exeedingly high IQ's are the same in men and women. Women tend to cluster round the average IQ levels and men have more latitude than womens intelligence. It then follows that there are a lot more stupid men around than women, but there are a lot more smarter men as well. It would be nice to meet a smart woman, but judging by the replies above there does not seem to be much of it about. They seem more motivated by sexual egotism and arrogance than anything else.

It all depends on how much studies and knowledge a person acquires through out his/her life. Women these days study more and have more scholar years then men have. So on average a woman can have more intelligence in our current era.
However we must also note that men have a greater capability then women to learn more due to the grey matter in their brains. However society promotes women to become more educated and grants no encouragement for men to do the same. The school system has been replaced for one in which women have most of the grants and educational standards are geared towards them and not men. With concequence, men need to seek out ways to teach themselves and acquire intelligence on their ownselves. So society is divided by a small amount of men as being the most intelligent creatures on earch. Followed by a very large segment of women who hold high levels of education and smarts then a large group of men who follow with a lower level of education due to their lack of studies and encouragement.
So are women smarter then men? It all depends on how much a man or woman wants to learn, but by brain size and grey matter, men hold the potential to be smarter and more intelligent then women.

Yes, but only when females are not around. When females are around they stop thinking and start feeling. They act like prats and start competing with each other in order to impress the females. What power you got, but then you already new that.

Is there really an objective measure of intelligence? Males and females are different. Females personalise things more. They are supposed to have emotional intelligence.

Truth is, it depends a lot on the person.

I don't believe that one sex is smarter than another. Every individual is smart in thier own way. Men are usually more recognized for brilliance while when they get home they don't know where to find anything. Womens brilliance many times go unrecognized. Don't fall into the trap of measure against one another we are all able to achieve on the same level.

No they are both equal in intelligence. However it is interesting to note how many women answer this saying "of course we are" or words to that effect....I wonder how much of this is collective "girl power" without substance- which is just as bad as the male "macho" equivalent.

The sooner we realise that men and women are different and are GENERALLY better at different things (men on average have better spatial awareness, yet women on average have better mutli tasking ability etc....), so it therefore depends on which aspects of intelligence you are seeking to measure....overall however we are equal.

I think all humans for the most part depending on genes and such are equally intelligent. Meaning that a brother and sister with the same upbringing would be for the most part equally intelligent. Maybe the brother being better at math and science and the sister being better at English and social studies

according to a recent study both women and men have the same average of intelligence. the difference is that the women tend to be closer to the average then men. meaning there are more intelligent men than women but also more idiots of the male sex then of the female. :)

I don't think so. Einstein was a man.

Though there's famous accounts down history of several super-intelligent women. Marie Curie and the ladies from the Pythagoras school, for instance.

On a par I'd say,
men are probably a little more emotionally intelligent.
Maybe women are ruled by their hearts more than their heads.
