you could promote the book and a website for it (if you have one) in your signature on a message board. you could also by Advertisement space from other sites.

There is an arsenal of ways to promote your book independently. I utilize a ton myself and help other authors do the same. Websites, forum participation, commenting on blogs, offering your services at libraries doing some training or talk related to your book, helping your community with fund raising events by donating a few books for a drawing, calling your local newspaper and letting them know about their local author, etc. I could go on and on here, I'm still finding ways to promote it as I research and learn to use new technology like RSS, pod casts, audio books etc.

Read books on marketing, about famous authors specially memoirs in which they share their journeys as writers and authors. There are also books you can find in the writing section of your bookstore or library that are from writers to writers. You can get great ideas there also.

scan/copy the book to PDF format,, upload it to rapidshare.de ,, paste a dl link into chatrooms that may be intrested,, likewise for message boards.
