I think the drinking age is ridiculous. I believe a reasonable drinking age should be 19. If people stopped making booze such a rebellious, forbidden thing, and teach moderation and control at home, there'd be less drunk driving deaths and binge drinking, since the glamour of all it is gone and it's just something to enjoy with a meal or friends. I mean, look at the other countries that don't make a big deal out of alcohol [where their drinking ages are 16/18, such as Belgium and Italy], the kids learn proper drinking attitudes at home, they're generally younger, and yet there are less alcohol-related deaths in those countries than in the U.S. which has the highest drinking age in the world! We can see what the gov't was trying to prevent with the 21 drinking age hasn't worked.. Most teens WILL want to drink and they WILL find a way to get it. I don't think the government should be telling us when we're responsible enough to drink. It's not like the moment we switch from 20 to 21 we suddenly become 'responsible' with alcohol. If an 18 year old has all the privledges of being an adult [smoking, lottery, voting, buying property, marriage, going to war, etc] why can't they simply enjoy a drink? Or why should they worry about being at risk of having something on their record for a completely non-violent act that is to have a pint? It's utter BS to me. And i say 19 only because the person would be out of high school by then. As for the age of consent: I'd lose hope in humanity if it was any lowered. I think 16 is just about right. Doesn't mean once you're 16 you should be f*cking everything that moves, though. Always be responsible. Just my two cents. I know some people might not agree, but i don't give.

it should be the age we reach sexual maturity. Just like with animals seeing as we are. The government has no right to throw people in jail over consensual sex with someone whos body is SEXUALLY mature. Prior to - sure I can see pedophilia coming into play but when a senior sleeps with a freshman and gets put in prison, its pathetic.
What exactly are they trying to protect? and who is going to protect us from them? Remember this is the country where people get out of jail sooner for real rape, than for drug charges LOL.
You would think sex is some kind of physical torture. Pro Tip - they consent to it because A) they want it B) they like it C) it feels good... but uncle sam has demonized it to the point it is almost taboo. I stopped wondering long ago why European countries make fun of us americans.

Whats also important is why and how its applied...
Ie in the Netherlands the reson is that there is no befnefit from jailing teenagers for making out with the boy/girlfreind too early and splitting them up... Just hurts...
Plus the teenagers generally wait and work their way up to it at 17.
But in other countries it involves arranged marraiges and forced marraiges of children... Now thats child abuse and rape but its the girls who try to avoid it and rebel that are seen as shameful and who get punished...Maybe even killed

One state in Mexico the age of consent is "at puberty". That is a pretty ambiquis law that has probably put many men in prison. Puberty is a stage of life that covers serveral years. It would depend on the laws definition of puberty. Pubic hair, menestration, or breasts et el.
