I have a Chevy Suburban. I started it up, walked to the back and then heard the sound. It seemed new to me. The truck had gone on a 2 mile run one one hour previous.

Fuel pump could be going bad. And may need to be replaced. Have you had this suburban very long? Most vehicles have a access panel under carpet of the interior of the vehicle( just above the gas tank) So you can remove and install new pump without taking tank completely down. If you are interested in changing this out yourself contact me and I will try and talk you through it.

because you are hearing the sound of the electric fuel pump running in your fuel tank. this noise will be heard sometimes when the tank is very low on fuel. if the noise is present when the tank is more than half full and seems to be getting louder with time it is usually an indication that you are about to experience a fuel pump failure, krtdrof (ase certified master tech)

This is a very good noise, unless you don't hear it. This will cost you dearly when it goes quiet.
