Draw like your favorite artist, for practice... then after you've devoped taht style, move onto other styles and repeat the proccess, afterwords take the elements from what you like from each style and then make your own style.

;-)

What helped me was to use the same techniques the Japanese Manga and Anime Artists use and then take it from there by adding my own style. If you notice the Manga and Anime Artists all have a similar look and feel to their works but very few have developed a distinct look to their works like Otomo (Akira) and Shirow (Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed). Try it I guarantee you will get out of your habit. BTW - I love Romita's work.

It takes a lot of searching to find a specific style to suit you. Keep searching. Ask yourself what styles of comic art you are drawn to visually. Also, what you expect out of yourself. My style is somewhere between abstract and comic art. It took me about 3 years to fine tune it. I've been in art my whole life. So keep at it. You can do it.

Getting out from the influence of your favourite comic artist can be tough. You just have to seek out other artists you like or even find challenging.
One of my favourite places to go looking for new ideas and new inspriration is http://www.joemadfan.com/links.html
